Homestyle Homemade Stuffing
This is my most favorite stuffing of all time. I was so happy when my sister-in-law, Amy, gave this to me. This recipe is exactly like my Grandma Gammell's traditional recipe. You will love this! Enjoy!
- 1 loaf homestyle white loaf of bread
- 1 loaf homestyle wheat loaf of bread
- 6 whole eggs
- 2 Tablespoon poultry seasoning (or sage)
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1-1/2 Tablespoon salt
- 2 medium onions (chopped)
- 1/2 bunch celery (chopped)
- 1 pound butter ((2 cups))
- 1 – 48oz. container chicken broth
To do one day in advance:
Break up your loaves of bread into small bite size pieces. Spread across baking trays and allow to dry overnight. Don't fret if they aren't completely dry; they will still work.
To Make:
Place dried bread crumbs in very large bowl. In a separate bowl, mix eggs, poultry seasoning, pepper and salt. Set aside. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, add butter, onions and celery. Melt butter and cook onions and celery to tenderness.
Pour both mixtures over crumbs and mix well. Add chicken broth gradually until your stuffing is well coated. This is purely a personal preference. Stuff in turkey cavity or put in pan covered with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 60 minutes, removing the foil the last ten minutes.
