Perfect Whole Wheat Bread

I received this recipe from my friend, Yvonne, years ago.  This lady raised 7 children.  She made all her bread.  When I had one of my babies, she send over a loaf of her amazing bread.  I was never a great fan of wheat bread because it was so dry and tasteless.  This bread is light and flavorful.  This is definitely the best bread I have ever tried.

  • 2-1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 Tablespoon dried yeast
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 5-1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine water and yeast.  Let sit for 5 minutes.  Add honey, salt and oil.  Mix.  Add 3 cups flour.  Mix.  Put on kneading hook at this point.  Add remaining flour.  Knead dough for 5 minutes.  Cover bowl with a wet towel and allow dough to rise double for about 45 minutes.

  2. Punch dough down.  Form into 2 loaves and place in greased loaf pans.  Allow to rise for about an hour until doubled.  Bake in 350* preheated oven for 30 minutes.  Cool and store in airtight bag or container.  Perfect with honey butter or your favorite sandwich.
