Homestyle Apple Crisp

A classic apple crisp made with sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a buttery oat crumble topping for a cozy, homestyle dessert.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups apples sliced or diced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 Tablespoon butter melted

Topping

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
In a bowl, toss apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter. Spread evenly in the prepared baking dish.
In a separate bowl, combine brown sugar, oats, flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Cut in softened butter until the mixture forms a crumbly topping.
Sprinkle topping evenly over the apples.
Bake for 35–45 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
Serve warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce.

Notes

  • This recipe can be made with fresh or canned apple filling for convenience.
Doubling the topping creates an extra-thick, bakery-style crumble layer.
Best apple varieties include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji.
Store leftovers refrigerated for 3–4 days and reheat in the oven for best texture.
This crisp can be assembled ahead and baked just before serving.
