Homemade Meatballs with BBQ sauce

Juicy baked meatballs made with oats, onion, eggs, and seasonings, finished in a sweet-and-savory sauce with barbecue, vinegar, and Worcestershire.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds hamburger
  • 1 cup quick rolled oats
  • 2 whole eggs beaten
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup onion diced
  • 1-1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce

Meatball Sauce

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 2 teaspoon mustard
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 teaspoon worcesershire sauce

Instructions

Make the Meatballs

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a large baking dish.
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, oats, eggs, milk, onion, salt, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until just combined.
Shape mixture into 2-inch meatballs and arrange in the prepared baking dish.

Make the Sauce

  • In a bowl, whisk together brown sugar, vinegar, mustard, barbecue sauce, and Worcestershire sauce.
Pour sauce evenly over the meatballs.

Bake

  • Bake uncovered for 45 minutes, or until meatballs reach 165°F internally.
Serve warm, or keep warm in a slow cooker until ready to serve.

Notes

  • These meatballs work well as an appetizer or main dish.
Meatballs can be made ahead and frozen before or after baking.
Sauce flavor can be adjusted by using spicy barbecue sauce or reducing sugar slightly.
For slow cooker cooking, bake meatballs first, then transfer with sauce to keep warm.
Serve with toothpicks, rice, mashed potatoes, or rolls depending on occasion.
